Cryotherapy. This method involves using liquid nitrogen to freeze the skin tag. It's a swift and effective technique, particularly for smaller skin tags. The frozen tissue typically falls off within a week or two after the treatment.

Surgical Excision. Our surgeon can remove larger or more complex skin tags using a scalpel or surgical scissors. This method offers immediate results and is usually carried out with local anaesthesia.

Electrosurgery. This procedure employs an electric current to burn off the skin tag. It's an efficient way to remove skin tags with minimal bleeding, making it ideal for tags with a stalk-like appearance.

Frequently asked

About skin tag removal.

Skin tag removal FAQ

01 What is Skin Tag Removal?

Skin tag removal is a medical procedure aimed at eliminating small, benign growths that often appear in areas where skin rubs against skin or clothing. At Skin Surgeons, we offer safe and effective options for removing skin tags, including surgical excision and cryotherapy.

02 How Do I Know If I Need My Skin Tag Removed?

If your skin tag causes discomfort, irritation, or if you’re unhappy with its appearance, it’s advisable to consult with our specialists. Removal may be recommended for cosmetic reasons or if the tag is prone to snagging on clothing or jewellery, which can cause pain or bleeding.

03 Can Removing a Skin Tag Lead to Infections or Complications?

When performed by a qualified healthcare professional, skin tag removal is safe and carries minimal risks. Our team adheres to strict hygiene standards to prevent infection and provides thorough aftercare instructions to support proper healing.

04 How Can I Prevent Skin Tags from Forming in the Future?

Although it’s difficult to prevent skin tags entirely due to factors like genetics and friction, maintaining a healthy weight, managing conditions such as diabetes, and following a skin-friendly diet may reduce their occurrence. Our specialists can provide personalized advice based on your individual health profile.

05 Are There Any Natural Remedies for Skin Tag Removal?

While various natural remedies are suggested online, our specialists at Skin Surgeons recommend professional removal to avoid potential risks like scarring and infection. We focus on evidence-based treatments to ensure safety and effectiveness.

06 How Long Does the Skin Tag Removal Process Take?

The duration of the removal process varies depending on the method and the number of skin tags. Procedures such as cryotherapy and laser removal are typically quick, often taking just minutes, while surgical removal may take longer, especially if local anaesthesia is used.

07 What Should I Expect During the Recovery Period?

Recovery times vary by the removal method used. Minor procedures like cryotherapy generally require no downtime, whereas surgical removal may necessitate a few days of care. Our team will provide detailed aftercare instructions, including how to clean the area and what signs of infection to watch for.

08 How Can I Schedule a Consultation for Skin Tag Removal?

To schedule a consultation, visit our Contact Us page or feel free to use our 'Book Consultation' feature. We aim to provide a seamless and safe experience from consultation through to recovery.
