The consultant
you meet is the
consultant who operates.
No rotating teams, no junior delegation. From your first appointment to your final review, one named specialist owns your care.

Mohs micrographic surgery, plastic reconstruction, cosmetic dermatology and laser care — performed on-site in our two-theatre Edinburgh suite.
Independently posted on Google by people who completed treatment with us. We don't filter, edit, or republish — we link straight to the source.
Read every review, in the patient's own words, on Google — we link to the live source so what you see is exactly what they wrote.
Continuity of care. The consultant who first sees you in clinic is the same consultant who lifts the scalpel and reviews the scar. No handoffs, no locum reads, no "the team" signing off the histology.
After-care, by your consultant. Routine post-op review is done by the surgeon who performed the procedure — not delegated to nursing. We will see you at one week, six weeks, and twelve months as standard.
Focused specialism. We do skin. Only skin. Every member of our team holds GMC Specialist Register-listed dermatology or plastic-surgery training, and most teach it.
Purpose-built theatres. Our two operating rooms were designed by the surgeons who use them. Air-handling, lighting and lay-up are calibrated to dermatology — not retrofitted from general surgery.
Practical guides for arriving at the hospital, preparing for surgery and recovering well at home. Written by the team who'll see you in clinic.
01 What kind of hospital is SkinSurgeons?
A consultant-led specialist day hospital focused exclusively on skin: dermatological surgery, Mohs micrographic surgery, skin-cancer treatment, and consultant-delivered aesthetic dermatology. We hold a Healthcare Improvement Scotland registration and have operated from our current site since 2014.
02 Where are you located?
We sit on the western edge of Edinburgh's New Town, two minutes from Charlotte Square. Patient parking is free for the duration of your appointment, and the tram stop is a six-minute walk. Address details and step-free access notes are on the Find Us page.
03 How long has the practice been operating?
SkinSurgeons was founded in 2008 by Mr A. Caldwell and Ms R. Park, who remain the senior partners. The practice moved to its current Edinburgh address in 2014 and added a second operating theatre in 2021.
04 What specialisms do you cover?
Mohs micrographic surgery, excision of skin cancers, plastic reconstruction (including local flaps and full-thickness skin grafts), benign-lesion surgery, scar revision, and consultant-delivered aesthetic and laser care. We do not perform general or visceral surgery.
05 Do you perform aesthetic plastic surgery?
We perform reconstructive plastic surgery on the skin — closures, flaps and grafts following oncological excision — and consultant-delivered aesthetic dermatology including injectables and energy-based devices. Larger body-contouring procedures are referred on to colleagues we trust.
06 What types of skin cancer do you treat?
All non-melanoma skin cancers (basal cell, squamous cell, and rarer adnexal tumours), pre-cancerous lesions including Bowen's disease and actinic keratoses, and atypical naevi requiring surgical excision. Suspected melanoma is referred via the local MDT.
07 Do you treat children?
We see patients aged 16 and over routinely. Cases under 16 are accepted on a named-consultant basis with an appropriate paediatric pathway agreed in advance.
08 Do you offer free consultations?
Our standard new-patient consultation is £180 and lasts forty minutes. We do not offer a free first appointment — we take the view that a thorough first review is the foundation of good care, and the time it takes deserves to be paid for.
09 Can I bring someone with me to my appointment?
Yes — one accompanying adult is welcome at every stage, including in the consulting room and in the recovery bay after day-case procedures. We ask that mobile phones are kept off in clinical areas.
10 How do I know the consultation went well?
You should leave your appointment with a written summary of what was found, what (if anything) we recommend doing about it, what it would cost, and what the alternatives are. If you don't have all four of those, please tell us before you leave.
11 Do you accept private medical insurance?
We are recognised by all major UK insurers including Bupa, AXA Health, Aviva and WPA. We will pre-authorise your treatment with your insurer before any procedure goes ahead.
12 Are payment plans available?
Yes. We work with several finance providers and can offer 0% over 12 months on most procedures over £500. Speak to our patient coordinator at the time of booking.
However you would like to get in touch — phone, email, or our enquiry form — one of our team will respond within two working days.
