Cyst Treatment Options
Observation
For small, symptom-free cysts, we may recommend monitoring for any changes rather than immediate treatment.
Incision and Drainage
This procedure offers quick relief for painful, swollen cysts by draining the contents. However, as the cyst sac remains, there's a higher chance of recurrence.
Surgical Excision
For a more permanent solution, the entire cyst, including its sac, is surgically removed, greatly reducing the likelihood of recurrence. This is performed under local anaesthesia.
Antibiotics
If the cyst is infected, antibiotics may be prescribed to treat the infection, although this won’t remove the cyst itself.
Cyst Removal Pricing
Specialist consultations are £125 and include a detailed, in-person assessment with our consultant plastic surgeon.
Treatment fees vary based on the nature and complexity of the procedure. A guide to typical pricing can be found on our pricing page.
If preferred, you may submit a quick online enquiry to receive an all-inclusive treatment estimate prior to committing to a consultation. We will respond promptly with tailored guidance.
Frequently Asked Questions : Cyst Removal
Q&A
01 Do you see patients from Stirling and Falkirk?
Yes — we frequently treat patients from Stirling, Falkirk, and surrounding areas at our Edinburgh clinic. Many choose to travel for consultant-led care with a focus on cosmetic results and fast access to treatment.
02 Is a referral needed to book an appointment?
No referral is required. You’re welcome to contact us directly to arrange a consultation with our plastic surgeon, without needing to go through your GP.
03 Can the procedure be done on the same day as my consultation?
In many cases, yes. If the cyst is suitable and you’re happy to proceed, we can often perform the removal during the same visit, subject to clinical assessment.
04 What types of cysts do you treat?
We remove a variety of benign skin cysts, including sebaceous, pilar, and epidermoid cysts. During your consultation, we’ll confirm the diagnosis and explain the most appropriate treatment option.
05 What is the recovery process like after cyst removal?
Most patients experience minimal discomfort and return to daily activities within 24 to 48 hours. We’ll provide detailed aftercare advice to promote healing and minimise scarring.
06 Is it safe to drive after the procedure?
If you’re travelling from Stirling or Falkirk by car, we recommend bringing someone with you. Driving immediately after a minor surgical procedure isn’t advised, particularly if local anaesthetic has been used.
