Cyst Treatment Options
Observation
For small, symptom-free cysts, we may recommend monitoring for any changes rather than immediate treatment.
Incision and Drainage
This procedure offers quick relief for painful, swollen cysts by draining the contents. However, as the cyst sac remains, there's a higher chance of recurrence.
Surgical Excision
For a more permanent solution, the entire cyst, including its sac, is surgically removed, greatly reducing the likelihood of recurrence. This is performed under local anaesthesia.
Antibiotics
If the cyst is infected, antibiotics may be prescribed to treat the infection, although this won’t remove the cyst itself.
Cyst Removal Pricing
Specialist consultations are £125 and include a detailed, in-person assessment with our consultant plastic surgeon.
Treatment fees vary based on the nature and complexity of the procedure. A guide to typical pricing can be found on our pricing page.
If preferred, you may submit a quick online enquiry to receive an all-inclusive treatment estimate prior to committing to a consultation. We will respond promptly with tailored guidance.

Q&A
01 Do you offer cyst removal for patients from Glasgow?
Yes – many patients from Glasgow and surrounding areas travel to our Edinburgh clinic for private cyst removal with experienced consultant plastic surgeons. We offer fast access, clinical expertise, and a discreet setting, making us a trusted option for those looking beyond local services.
02 How long does it take to travel from Glasgow to your clinic?
The clinic is approximately 1 hour from Glasgow by car via the M8 motorway. If travelling by train, regular services run from Glasgow Queen Street and Glasgow Central to Edinburgh Gateway or Haymarket, with a short onward taxi ride.
03 Is there free parking available?
Yes – we provide free on-site parking directly outside the clinic. However, if you’re undergoing a procedure, we recommend arranging a lift or taking public transport, as you may not be able to drive immediately afterwards.
04 Can I have my cyst removed on the same day as my consultation?
In most cases, yes. If your cyst is suitable for treatment under local anaesthetic, we can often provide same-day private cyst removal, subject to clinical assessment and consent.
05 What types of cysts do you treat?
We remove a variety of benign skin cysts, including sebaceous cysts, pilar cysts, epidermoid cysts, and other non-cancerous skin lumps. All procedures are performed by fully qualified consultant plastic surgeons in a clinical environment.
06 Is private cyst removal covered by the NHS or health insurance?
Cyst removal that is considered cosmetic or non-urgent is rarely funded by the NHS and is often excluded from private insurance. We offer clear, fixed pricing with no hidden charges.
