Cyst Treatment Options
Observation
For small, symptom-free cysts, we may recommend monitoring for any changes rather than immediate treatment.
Incision and Drainage
This procedure offers quick relief for painful, swollen cysts by draining the contents. However, as the cyst sac remains, there's a higher chance of recurrence.
Surgical Excision
For a more permanent solution, the entire cyst, including its sac, is surgically removed, greatly reducing the likelihood of recurrence. This is performed under local anaesthesia.
Antibiotics
If the cyst is infected, antibiotics may be prescribed to treat the infection, although this won’t remove the cyst itself.
Cyst Removal Pricing
Specialist consultations are £125 and include a detailed, in-person assessment with our consultant plastic surgeon.
Treatment fees vary based on the nature and complexity of the procedure. A guide to typical pricing can be found on our pricing page.
If preferred, you may submit a quick online enquiry to receive an all-inclusive treatment estimate prior to committing to a consultation. We will respond promptly with tailored guidance.
Frequently Asked Questions : Cyst Removal
Q&A
01 Can I arrange private cyst removal if I live in the Borders?
Yes, many of our patients travel from the Scottish Borders — including Peebles, Galashiels, and Melrose — for minor skin procedures at our Edinburgh clinic. We provide expert treatment in a discreet, consultant-led setting, with no referral needed.
02 How do I book an appointment for cyst removal?
You can contact us directly by phone or email to arrange a consultation — there’s no need to go through your GP. We aim to offer appointments within a short timeframe. Alternatively, you can complete our quick and easy enquiry form, and a member of our team will be in touch promptly.
03 What should I expect during the consultation?
Your consultation will involve a full assessment by our plastic surgeon, who will discuss the cyst, any symptoms, and whether same-day removal is appropriate. We’ll also explain risks, scarring, and aftercare.
04 Do you offer treatment on the same day as the consultation?
In many cases, yes — if the cyst is suitable for immediate removal and you’re happy to proceed, treatment can often take place at the same appointment.
05 What kind of cysts can be removed at your clinic?
We commonly remove benign skin cysts such as sebaceous, pilar, and epidermoid cysts. If you're unsure about the type of lump, our consultant will advise during your consultation.
06 What is the cost of treatment?
Prices start at £595 for small cysts (under 2cm). We’ll provide a full quotation during your appointment based on the size, number, and complexity of the cyst(s).
07 Can I drive myself to the clinic from the Borders?
While the journey by car typically takes under an hour and free parking is available, we don’t recommend driving yourself home if you’re having a procedure. You may wish to bring someone with you or use public transport or a taxi.
